DotNetPanel username restrictions

Hello Bill,

The only restrictions on username charactesrs are that user name cannot contain any of the following characters:
\ / : * ? ” |
As for username size, it cuts off whatever you put in the username box at 50 characters.

And the username of your reseller account cannot be changed after accounts are created underneath it. Unless we make a new account for you but then you wouldn’t have any accounts or settings that you originally had.

restoring .sql structure for MS SQL

Avesta S: I’ve restored the structure.
Avesta S: When you do it yourself in the future
Avesta S: you simply have to double click the .sql file
Avesta S: it should open it in your sql server management studio
Avesta S: in the drop down menu on the top left, choose your database,
Avesta S: then click “executre”
Avesta S: “Execute”
Avesta S: and it will execute the sql and create the structure

Client Fix (QQI-668396)

I have found the problem on video processing. It was in the cron job in event anyone else asks similar question in future. It was set to process at midnight. However, I need to know your recommendation. I have it currently set to process every minute in cron. I do not think this is a real good policy to do this. What is your recommendation?

Using Expressions to Publish - watch out for stupid www

Microsoft did it again:

When using Expressions, after ensuring Frontpage Extensions is enabled, if theres something wrong, maybe about “Authentication” and “Authentication Headers” , make sure you are using “www” in the url in the properties. So http://www.microsoftisstupid.com not http://thiswouldmakemoresense.com .

EasyApache? Safe or not Safe?

DNS Service Failing on Windows 2008 IIS

If user’s DNS is pointing to our server(even if they are custom dns) and the name servers being used ping to the server, then check this on windows:

Go into “services” in Manager:

Find DNS Service, try restarting it. If it fails, go to bind2/etc/named.conf and cut the entire thing except the top main ones that are related to the main server and “options”

and paste into another document. Then try to restart DNS service again. If it works, then you know something in named.conf is causing problems. Undo your cut, so its back to original, then start cutting large chunks, restarting DNS, and seeing if cutting that chunk did it. In this way, isolate the conf entry that is causing problems and remove it.

Changing password on email account through Afterlogic webmail

Hello Chandra,

To change the password on your webmail:
1) login to webmail
2) click on “settings” on the top right
3) click on “Email Accounts” on the left
4) Look for “Password” and you can change it there.

Showing a folder in the main domain with a subdomain using DotNetPanel.

Hello Frank,

Here are the steps I took to accomplish this:
1) created subdomain dnn5.matthewfalzon.com
2) created a website for it
3) went into its website settings
4) on the first page of the settings the “Home Folder” tab, under “Folder in your Hosting Space” make sure its checked and I put in “\matthewfalzon.com\wwwroot\DNN51″.
